メキシコは、ZARAがメキシコの先住民によって作られたデザインを利用し、それは文化の盗用だと言っています。
Mexico has accused fashion brands Zara, Anthropologie and Patowl of cultural appropriation, claiming that they “made use” of designs created by the country’s indigenous populations. (CNN)
そのデザインを作ったコミュニティーに利益が還元されることを求めています。
In a series of letters written to the brands, Mexico’s Ministry of Culture asked for a “public explanation.” It also called for “benefits” to be “given back to the creative communities” that it believes invented the embroidery techniques and design motifs. (CNN)
ZARAは去年も、ZARAのメッシュバッグがメキシコの「メルカドバッグ」と呼ばれる日常的なショッピングバッグに似ているとして批判されたようですね。こちらは、メルカドバッグの20倍もの値段だったのが問題視されたようですが。
「文化」の方は難しい問題ですね。
