プラスチックストローは、そのサイズ（の小ささ）のためにリサイクルするのが難しく、埋め立て地に行く着くか海岸に打ち上げられるのが通例です。健康問題の専門家によると、それらは鳥や海洋生物の体内に取り込まれ、食物連鎖の有害な一部となる恐れがあるとのことです。
