フロリダ州知事 Ron DeSantis氏が共和党大統領候補に立候補しましたね。
そのフロリダ州のある郡の学校から84作の書籍が排除されることになりました。
学校に置く書籍を厳しく管理することはある程度は必要だと思いますが、今回はちょっと違うようです。
Anderson Cooper : Florida governor Ron DeSantis was adamant last week that recent state regulations on school libraries did not lead to book bans on seemingly innocuous works. He called that a, quote, “hoax.” Yet earlier that week, local media in Martin County, Florida, published a list of books being removed from school libraries.

インタビューの相手は、自身の著作20作がマーティン郡の学校関係者によって排除された作家の Jodi Picoult氏です。
Jodi Picoult : So, in Martin County School District, you do not actually have to read the books to challenge them, and you do not even have to say what is objectionable in a book to have it removed from a shelf. And this is actually true in a lot of Florida.
objectionable : 好ましくない、不愉快な
そして彼女は続けて言います。
most of the people who are affected as authors are BIPOC and LGBTQ authors.
BIPOC : 黒人・先住民・有色人種の人々の (black, indigenous, and people of color)
Picoult : It’s totally fine to make a decision about what your child can or cannot read. It is not fine for you to make a decision for everyone else’s child. That is what the problem is here.
内容を読まずに異議申し立てをできるというのは納得がいきませんね。
そして次のPicoult氏の発言にも共感します。
Picoult : The reason this matter is because we have scientific proof that kids who feel marginalized who read books that have characters that are marginalized feel less alone. And we know, also, that kids who haven’t met or experienced people who are different from them who do so in the safe space of a book also learn about those cultures and those identities. We know that books bridge divides between people, and we know that book bans create them. And that, ultimately, is the big problem here.
marginalize : ～を（社会的に）周辺に追いやる、疎外する
これは「言論若しくは出版の自由」を保証する合衆国憲法修正第1条に違反しうるということです。
