新学期からのスケジュールに慣れるのにアップアップしている間にブログを一ヶ月も放置してしまいました。

3月の「タイムを読む会」で、”The AI Arms Race Is Changing Everything” を読んでから、日本でも急にChatGPTのニュースを見るようになりました。
タイム誌の上記の記事の中で、私がちょっとぞっとした部分は、
An oft-cited thought experiment is that of an AI that, following a command to maximize the number of paper clips it can produce, makes itself into a world-dominating superintelligence that harvests all the carbon at its disposal, including from all life on earth. （タイム誌）
AIは、ペーパークリップを最大限作るように命令されると、すべての炭素を収集する、地球上のすべての生き物からも。。。よって人間も滅びる。。。怖くないですか？
CNN ENGLISH EXPRESS 5月号の「アンダーソン・クーパー360°」はChatGPTの話題でした。
ゲストは、ニューヨーク大学スターン経営大学院のスコット・ギャロウェイ教授。
Scott Galloway : The scarier thing is when you tell it to come up with really effective misinformation around COVID vaccines or you say, “Come up with propaganda or talking points or stories that make me feel worse about free elections in America.” I think that’s where it gets a little bit more frightening.
確かに怖い。
しかし教授はこうも述べています。
I’m a little bit more hopeful, though, because I think whenever there’s a new technology, whether it’s the printing press or the internal-combustion engine or robotics in factories, we talk about all the jobs it’s going to displace and all he threats, but traditionally, it’s created more economic opportunity and prosperity.
AIも多くの技術と同様に、可能性を広げてくれるだろうと。

そう言われれば確かに。。。
しかしタイム誌の中に、AIの競争が激化する中、何千人というエンジニアが能力の開発に取り組んでいる一方で、世界中でたった80人から120人の研究者しか安全性のための調整に従事していないと書いてありました。やっぱりちょっと怖い気が。。。
